Ta Prohm and Bayon Temples

Ta Prohm and Bayon Temples

We're temple hopping once more after getting our morning/afternoon siesta.

Our first stop is Ta Prohm Temple also known as the Tomb Raider Temple.
In case you didn't know, Ta Prohm Temple had a cameo in Angelina Jolie's 2001 movie Tomb Raider. The growing trees out of the ruins make it one of the most popular temples in Cambodia.

Reconstruction is in full swing and not sure how true (the rumors are) that they plan to close the archeological park really soon.

There's a guided path for tourists going around the park. Don't worry if in case you get lost, there are a lot of guards roaming around the area.

This is not allowed so be careful not to get caught like these guys did. Haha. Luckily the guards didn't asked for our passports or whatnot.

Let's take another selfie before entering the Bayon Temple.

Bayon's most distinct feature are the towers with massive stone faces.

I think it's also one of the temples that had less reconstruction?

I wonder how long did it take for the Cambodians to carve this piece of stone. It's so intricately beautiful.
Angkor Wat Sunrise

Angkor Wat Sunrise

Apart from seeing the temples during sunset, one should not miss seeing the temples during sunrise. Remember we got our tickets the day before? If you get an Angkor Pass in the afternoon, it's valid for use 'til the day after. ;) Talk about hitting two birds with one stone.

Anyway, Faye set the alarm at 4:30AM but no one got up.  No thanks to our late night drinking in Pub Street. Haha. We should've asked the concierge to give us a wake up call. Oh well, moving on.

We went back the next morning to this view. This was taken around 5:45AM.

Say hello to Jamie.

Like my other friend Jay, he also loves taking selfies.

Not sure if we're actually allowed to sit here.

There were stones perfectly balanced on top of each other. I guess they were placed there by locals or other tourists.

Photobomber alert!

We left by 8:00AM and went back to our hotel for breakfast.

It depends on the weather forecast but I really do not recommend going on a temple tour mid noon time because of the intense heat. After our heavy breakfast, it was time to to go back to our rooms and rest for a while. Buhay baboy lang eh no? LOL. Our next post will be about the Ta Prohm and Bayon Temples so watch out for that. ;)
Angkor Wat Sunset

Angkor Wat Sunset

TRAVEL TIP: When visiting the temples, get your 1-day ($20) Angkor Passes in the afternoon. They're valid for use until the next day so at least you get to see both sunset and sunrise the day after. :)

After getting our passes, we went straight to Angkor Wat temple. I kindly asked both monks if I could take their photo and they happily obliged. :)

Don't get confused, both photos were taken the same day. I had to use the iPhone for our group shot since most people have a hard time trying to figure out my Fuji XM1. Mukha na ba kaming mga dugyot? Haha. Pasensya na, medyo mainit that day kahit na mukhang cloudy.

Of course when in Cambodia, don't forget to take emo shots. Wag ka nga lang KJ (kill joy) like my friend Jay who photobombed Rap in this photo. Haha.

Sige guys, emote pa. Push niyo yan. Hahaha.

Siyempre after sunset san pa ba pupunta? Pub Street! The last time I was in Cambodia, di ako naka hangout in Pub Street. So glad to be traveling with my best buds 'coz we went there every night. Haha.

We pretty much became loyal customers of Temple Bar. This is our usual spot, it's the best place to go people watching.

Believe it or not, beer in Cambodia is cheaper compared to Manila. May 50% discount pa if you order after 12 midnight!

Enjoy na enjoy nga si Jay o! Tinamad na mag baso, straight na niyang ininom yung Angkor beer from the pitcher. Haha.

Before going back to our hotel, spotted the very cute and macho lovers from Manila, Hero and Paolo.

We called it a night around 2:00AM, babalik pa kami sa Angkor Wat ng sunrise di ba? Call time is around 4:30-5:00AM. Goodluck sa eyebags namin!
Lazy Afternoon in Siem Reap

Lazy Afternoon in Siem Reap

We're in Siem Reap, Cambodia for 5 whole days. That's a lot if you ask me. So I decided to create a list of things to do on a lazy afternoon in Siem Reap.

Number 1: Swim with friends. Take advantage of that salted pool because there's no beach in Siem Reap. Nearest is Sihanoukville which takes around 8 hours of road travel.

Number 2: Hire a tuktuk and go around to check out nearby tourist spots in town like museums, old markets and temples.

Number 3: Go shopping! For affordable souvenirs, check out the old market.

Number 4: Chill at The Blue Pumpkin. It is a french bakery and patisserie, an ice cream parlor and a restaurant with a lounge atmosphere. They also have free WiFi!

Number 5: There are a lot of bike rentals available in Siem Reap for as low as USD2.00/day. Instead of taking the tuktuk or van, why not ride a bike all the way to the temples? It takes around 20-30 minutes one-way. Ok na ok as exercise! Lucky for us, we got to use the bicycles of Angkor Heritage Boutique Hotel for free! ;)

Number 6: Last but not the least, get your $20 (1-day) Angkor Pass in the afternoon. Angkor Passes issued after 5:00PM are valid for use until the next day. Perfect for those who want to see both the sunrise and sunset in Angkor Wat Temple.
