Rosario Resort and Hotel


Oh my.. I missed blogging. I've been busy with work (signed up as creative consultant for the boyfriend's family businesses) wherein I just finished doing the website of locally based non-life insurance company website of Commonwealth Insurance Company. So yeah if you need a web developer and designer, let me know! Hahaha.


Moving on, they opened another business venture. This time it's a resort and hotel located in their family hometown of Rosario, Batangas. The town of Rosario is basically the gateway for those visiting San Juan or the beaches in Laiya.

We went on weekday road trip to the resort to take food photos for their restaurant menu (that I am designing too! lol). But before that, I kindly asked if I could check at least one of their rooms. I mean, I need new content for this blog right? Haha.

Here is their superior room and overnight rate is ₱2,000 inclusive of ala-carte breakfast for two.

In all fairness, the room was very spacious. I just don't understand why the table and chairs were placed beside the bathroom.

The bathroom was spacious as well but someone please explain why the mirror was placed on that side. Wrong location definitely but then I guess they didn't have a choice. #ConstructionProblems

Anyway, we didn't come here to review the rooms. Let's move on to the important part which is food. The chef prepared a few dozen meals for us and here are some that I liked:

We went on an Ash Wednesday so obviously consuming any kind of meat is not allowed. But look at that Crispy Pata! Nakakagutom!

I rarely eat shrimp when dining out. Nakakatamad magbalat so Paolo basically consumed all of this. Tastes ok, nothing really special but at least there were about a dozen shrimps per order so not bad.

I liked their Sweet and Sour Fish. Tastes just right! ;)

I can't wait to come back! :) I'm obviously not part of their target market but it's good to know that there's a nice resort and hotel right smack in the middle of Rosario that can cater to people based in Southern Luzon like Batangas and Quezon.

If coming from Manila, the fastest way to get here is to take the Ibaan exit (stay away from Lipa because of traffic) from Star Tollway and from there just follow the signs leading you to Rosario town proper. The resort is located along the National Highway in Brgy. Quilib, Rosario, Batangas.

Dave's Brewery Tours

Done with the usual tour around Sydney? Why not try Dave's Brewery Tours?

I've met awesome people when I took the Digital Marketing class at General Assembly. One if them is Sue and she's the marketing genius behind Dave's Brewery Tours. After classes ended, I told her I was interested to join (despite not being a beer drinker, I thought it would be an awesome experience I can share in my blog) their tours and she happily obliged. If you're reading this Sue, thanks again for the invite. :)

Moving on, I chose Dave's 3 in 3 Brewery Tour which was recommended for people staying in Sydney during weekdays. This tour takes you to three great Sydney craft beer locations in three hours. It includes transportation and plenty of fresh craft beer and cider.

 
Tour starts at 2:00PM and meet up point was at Keg & Brew Hotel in Surry Hills.

I was on tour with this lovely couple based in Hawaii. They love traveling and they've been to Sydney quite a few times already. It's also their first time to join a brewery tour.

Our first stop was Young Henrys over at Newtown. Here's our personal tour guide Alison giving us a brief history about craft beers in Sydney.

After getting heaps of fun facts about beer, it's time for tasting. I love that we're having beers directly from the breweries, couldn't get any fresher than that!

 
Cheers from us! Here we are enjoying our beers. I did try most of what Alison served us (I'm holding a cider in that photo), but did not dare finish them all since I was commuting my way back home.

Second stop was at Rocks Brewing Company in Alexandria.

From here we got a behind the scenes look on how they make their beers.

As usual, beer was overflowing like there was no tomorrow. By this time, I couldn't keep up. I even told Alison that I think I need coffee instead of beer! LOL

Our last stop is at Royal Albert Hotel in Surry Hills where I was able to try this craft beer that smells like coffee and chocolate. It was kind of surreal to drink an alcoholic coffee. Sadly I forgot the name of those beers but it was worth a try! ;)

If you really liked one of the beers tasted, you can always buy them in jugs for takeaway. ;) Although I wouldn't recommend that to those flying outside of Australia since there's a limit for alcohol you can take on board the plane right? Haha.

Overall I had a great experience in this tour although I must admit that I fell asleep inside the train on my way home. LOL. Plus our guide Alison was so awesome, professional (of course she can't drink while on the job! haha) and she really knows a lot of stuff about beer.

The 3 in 3 Brewery Tour costs $110.00AUD per person inclusive of GST. I honestly think it was cheap and you get your money's worth since ordering a bottle of beer in the city might cost between $6.50-15.00AUD and with this tour you get to try at least a dozen types of craft beer. ;) And did I mention that this tour is currently top 5 on TripAdvisor's food and wine tours in Sydney? You should definitely check this out!

Karnitas Korner

Say hello to the newest porchetta (pronounced as por'ketta) joint in the metro, Karnitas Korner!

I love getting invites, I really do! Specially when it's a food tasting event that includes meat, meat, meat and of course more meat! LOL certified meat lover here. ;) So what is Karnitas Korner? It's a new hole-in-the-wall restaurant hidden somewhere in the heart of Kapitolyo, Pasig City where people can enjoy affordable gourmet dishes with their very crispy, fatty and juicy porchetta.

Karnitas Korner was developed by a group of seasoned entrepreneurs and culinary professionals who have been part of international concept restaurants (i.e. Hard Rock Cafe, T.G.I. Fridays) in the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Europe.

Carnitas means small pieces of meat. It refers to the sliced porchetta cut into small pieces and added to different dishes like:


Porchetta Nachos (₱135.00)


Porchetta Tacos (₱185.00)


Porchetta rice dish served with steamed white rice, soft-boiled edd and roasted corn slaw. Sorry for the pic, didn't notice that this shot was blurry. Anyway, this dish is good for two for only (₱185.00).

 
Other non-porchetta dishes include the Poutine (₱125.00) and the Spinach Gouda Cheese Melt (₱185.00).


But personally the star of the show would have to be the Porchetta Sandwich (₱185.00) using fresh ciabatta bread with salsa verde. I LOVE IT! THIS IS FUCKENG BETTER THAN THE MCRIBS!

Pacific Waves Inn Baler

Walking distance from Sabang beach is the main building of Pacific Waves Inn, Baler, Aurora. :)

My friend from college is back in Manila for a short vacation and one of our rituals is to go out of town and have the ultimate bonding experience (UBE!). Our destination this time around is Baler in Aurora, Quezon where a friend (also from college) offered to host us during our stay. I'm quite excited because I haven't been to Baler and was really looking forward to try surfing!



Meet Angel, remember her from my Tagaytay post back in 2012? :) We call ourselves B1 and B2 from the popular 90's show Bananas in Pajamas. LOL.


Captured this photo along the way, it looked like we were on our way to Baguio. Haha. Our road trip started in San Fernando, Pampanga so it took us around 4-5 hours (I think) to get to Aurora.


We weren't expecting this kind of (nakakatamad) weather but look there's still a lot of people surfing and enjoying the huge waves of Sabang beach. ;)


Our lazy hormones kicked in and we all decided to stay indoors. Here's the room at the 3rd floor of Pacific Waves Inn. Not exactly sure if this room is already open to the public but the rate for this one is ₱3,500 per night.


The room can accommodate approximately 8-10 pax. Extra mats/bed are available for a minimum charge.


Say hi to my friends Jay, Angel and Faye. :) The stairs I think lead to the roof top which I didn't bother checking because it was raining. LOL.

I forgot to take a photo of our private bathroom that have hot and cold shower. Some parts of the inn are still under renovation but I assure you guys that Pacific Waves is the best accommodation for budget travelers looking for an affordable beachfront accommodation along Sabang beach. :)


Instead of hanging out, we all fell asleep (pagbigyan niyo na, puyat eh!) and failed to have dinner outside. Haha. Here's a stolen photo of us while sleeping around 1:00AM. Angel was obviously up thanks to her jetlagged body clock. Hehe.

Speaking of dinner/food, we noticed that there was a limited number of restaurants by the beach. We tried having breakfast at Costa Pacifica (which was like 5 minutes walk away from the inn) but the receptionist didn't allow us just coz they're fully booked and couldn't accommodate outsiders. Boooo!

Buti na lang Pacific Waves Inn has an open kitchen where guests are free to bring or cook their meals at no extra charge. ;) Interested to book? Like them on Facebook and visit their website here!

Casa Minerva Tagaytay

Casa Minerva, Tagaytay

Early January I got an email from owner of this house inviting me to check out her newly converted bed and breakfast (b&b) home in Tagaytay. Timing was perfect because my boss wanted to have an out of town planning for our team and she agreed to stay here instead of booking somewhere else. This post is basically an ex-deal but I shall try my best to give constructive comments and suggestions for improvement of the property. :)


Moving on.. According to the owner, the house was built back in 1999 and served as their vacation home during her younger years. When her dad died in 2008, the house got neglected and her mom wanted to get rid of the property by selling it. Of course she didn't agree so in 2013, they went back to check the condition of the house and from there they decided to restore and convert it to a b&b house.


Casa Minerva officially opened last November 2014. I asked her who's Minerva (LOL, chismosa ba?) and said she's her favorite Roman goddess.


Our team arrived around 1:30PM but decided to chill muna by watching a movie. There's cable TV and WiFi. Meanwhile, I kept myself busy by documenting parts of the house for my blog. :)


Here's the masters bedroom. It has its own bath but failed to take a photo (may tao kasi sa loob, lol).


Here's room number 1 that's good for 2 pax.


Meanwhile, room number 2 is good for 3 pax. There's an extra bed under the right bed.


Here's the common bath for rooms 1 and 2. My only complaint is that water pressure is low.. probably because someone was also taking a shower from the other bathrooms. But at least they have water heaters installed. ;)

By the way there's a 4th room downstairs that has its own bath too but forgot to take a photo. That's where our driver stayed for the night. ;)


Moving on, of course you're allowed to bring your own food and prepare it in their kitchen. Very convenient din coz you no longer need to go out. ;) But if I may suggest, maybe the owner can add a water dispenser para no need to bring our own right? While I'm at it, maybe you can also add towels. Not that I forgot to bring my own towel, for some travelers it's easier to pack without one.


I like that they maximized the space of the house by adding an outdoor area like the mini garden on the left and a pool on the right. Parang ang sarap tumambay dito with friends on a hot summer day.


The garage can accommodate 1-2 cars but I'm sure management will allow parking outside since di naman busy street yung location ng house. :)


What I like about this house is that it feels like home away from home. Yes, it may look a little bit old but at least they were able to restore and earn something from it. ;)
