My Wonderful Experience with Explore Tibet

Tibet is not among the 193 independent countries I have to visit to complete my dream of visiting all countries in the world. However, Tibet is one of the territories that feels most like an independent country and nothing like China at all. I have just visited Tibet for three nights and had an unforgettable experience thanks to Explore Tibet, which is recommended as the number one tour operator in the latest edition of the Lonely Planet book. Explore Tibet can arrange tours and the important Tibet permit, which you must apply for through them at least two weeks prior to arrival in the country. Yes, country. Despite not being a part of United Nations, Tibet is more of a country than many independent countries with their unique culture, and I can only hope it will someday become independent. Unfortunately, the only international flights are from Hong Kong or Kathmandu and most visitors arrives from "Mainland China".

My experience with Explore Tibet began with the excellent communication by e-mail by Sonam and Kate, and the permit arranged in time for my visit. The experience in Tibet itself was excellent with pick up from the airport and guided tour of Tibet's sights including the stunning Potala Palace and Lake Namtso in the following days. My problem with Tibet was limited to hotels. St. Regis and InterContinental was the worst two luxury hotels I have stayed in my travels, and you can read why on my Hotel Passion blog. Explore Tibet was a great company from beginning to end, and there is a reason Lonely Planet has them as their most recommended tour operator. Professional, friendly and fast service from beginning to end.

The Easiest Countries to Hitchhike

I have hitchhiked with at least 1,000 cars around the world in my project of visiting all 324 countries and territories in the world. With only 18 countries and 41 territories left to visit, it is to recommend the best places in the world to hitchhike. Maybe you should give it a try in one of the following destinations?

Fernando de Noronha
Located an hour from Brazil, Fernando de Noronha is completely safe and easy for hitchhiking. Every 2nd car stopped on average. No need to ever take a taxi.

Palau
Every car or every second car will stop. It is incredible and very safe. No need to ever take a taxi.

Nauru
The world's smallest country is a wonderful island to hitchhike. Full of friendly people. Almost all will stop for you.

New Zealand
The best place to start hitchhiking. Very easy and safe. I love this country for many reasons, and hitchhiking is one of them.

Saba
This small Dutch territory in the Caribbean is a unique travel destination and a very easy place to hitchhike.

St. Pierre
Very easy to hitchhike in this French territory. Hitchhiked three times and never waited more than one minute.

Svalbard
Every car stopped in the Northernmost city in the world, Longyearbyen. No need to take the expensive airport bus.

Tinian
American territory in the Pacific, but does not feel like America at all. Very small and every car or every second car will stop.

Tonga
Very easy and safe to hitchhike on both Tongatapu and Vava'u island. Very friendly islanders.

Apps I Like: WifiMapper

Wi-Fi is one of the few things I need to travel the world. Like most people, I would rather walk until I find free Wi-Fi than paying for it. WifiMapper is a new app that makes my free Wi-Fi mission a lot easier around the world. Download the app, allow it to use your location and it will show you the way to the nearest free Wi-Fi hotspot.

There are more than 2 million hotspots around the world, even in places like Bangui and Nuuk making it one of the must-have apps for world travellers.

Download it on the App Store or at wifimapper.com.

Disclaimer: I am not sponsored by WifiMapper. I just love the app.
