The Capital Hotel, London

Introduction: It was a young man's dream to build and manage his own small luxury hotel in Knightsbridge, London. In 1971 the dream came true and today David Levin still runs the hotel with his daughter Kate.

The Capital is a charming 5 Star Boutique Hotel on Basil Street just steps away from Harrods and at the heart of one of London’s smartest destinations for shopping, dining and culture alike. On the door step is Knightsbridge, Sloane Street, Hyde Park, the National History Museum and the world acclaimed V&A museum. The Piccadilly underground station is 1 minute away linking up Heathrow Airport (LHR) and St Pancras International for the Eurostar. Buckingham Palace, The Royal Albert Hall, Green Park are all an enjoyable walk away.

The hotel is one of the last offering a true sense of place; English interiors and very personal service. Bedrooms are all individual, English wall paper, antique furnishings, the families own paintings and many personal details. Arguably the UK’s best seafood chef, Nathan Outlaw has his only London restaurant here, Michelin starred Outlaw’s at the Capital.

Above information is how the hotel presents itself on their website.

Below is my experience based on a one-night stay at the property.

My arrival experience: Fast check-in before being escorted to the room.
What about the service: I was disappointed with the service for two reasons. 1. Disorganized service. I almost missed my flight in the morning as the receptionist wasn't there. The other staff in the lobby couldn't help me. As far as I could see, all staff are foreigners and they need a lot more training. Despite waiting long for my document, I made it just in time for my flight thanks to Uber's fantastic service.
What about the rooms: I can only speak of their standard rooms. They are small, but with classical charm. Comfortable bed, flat screen Tv, working desk and a very small bathroom with shower in the bathtub.
Number of rooms: 49.
Website: www.capitalhotel.co.uk
Type of property: City hotel.
Location: London, United Kingdom.
Facilities: As far as I am aware only a gym and I wonder how the hotel got 5 stars?
Complimentary internet: Yes.
Affiliations: Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
My overall impression: Good+ experience.
